BIBIYANA III 400 MW POWER PLANT

The Bibiyana South Combined-Cycle Power Plant, a single-shaft configuration fueled by natural gas, is part of the South Asian nation’s Power System Master Plan to help achieve electrification in the largely rural northeast. The combined cycle, gas and steam plant was considered essential to meet the demand for electricity due to rapid economic growth. Turbine commissioning and installation in the remote area was undertaken by EPC contractor Larsen & Toubro, which worked with logistics providers and used inland rivers to deliver a gas turbine, steam turbine generating unit and other pieces of equipment. The site had to be remediated because of poor clay soil, not known before the contractor got on site. Project team members and major suppliers coordinated design and construction from India, the U.S., Ukraine, Germany, Korea and Singapore while some decisionmakers were positioned at Dhaka for engineering and design-based discussions during construction.

The location of the project is at Bibiyana, Habiganj, Bangladesh. Construction of Combined Cycle Power Plant of capacity 400 MW at site conditions (350C, 1.013 mbar, 98% R.H). Natural Gas will be used as fuel for this Power Plant. The Combined Cycle unit shall be of single-shaft arrangement with Synchronous Self Shifting (SSS) clutch (to allow continuous and reliable simple cycle operation) or multi-shaft arrangement having 1:1:1 (One GT + One HRSG + One ST) configuration. The Project will be implemented on turnkey basis. Generator step-up transformer(s) would be connected with the 400 kV Bibiyana Grid Sub-Station (by extension of 400 kV bay; 1 and ½ Breaker system) through overhead conductor and other necessary electrical equipment. Start-up / Reserve Transformer would be connected with the 230 kV Bibiyana Grid Sub-Station (by extension of 230 kV bay; Main and Aux, Bus system) through overhead conductor and other necessary electrical equipment.
